Abstrakt: Background: essential oils in vitro studies have shown enhancement in the digestibility of nutrients‚ generating greater efficiency‚ however‚ they must be evaluated in terms of doses and production systems. Objective: to determines the effect of essential oil inclusion levels on weight gain‚ body condition‚ energy- protein metabolic profile‚ dry matter consumption and digestibility in dual-purpose lactating cows under grazing and supplementation conditions. Methods: the study lasted 108 days. 24 dual purpose multiparous crossbred cows were used. A completely randomized design was used‚ in which the animals were randomly divided into four treatments with a 1 kg/day supplement supplied with 19 % CP‚ with inclusion levels of 0‚ 0.5‚ 1 and 1.5 g of cinnamon essential oil. (Cinnamomum verum)/day. Outcome: the inclusion of cinnamon essential oil did not affect average daily gain and body condition score (p > 0.05). Likewise‚ it did not affect (p > 0.05) the metabolic variables under study. The addition showed an effect on CMS % PV‚ DMS‚ BMD‚ DPB (p < 0.05) Conclusions: the results suggest that supplementation with the addition of cinnamon essential oil in cows in production with low quality pastures can improve performance without affecting the metabolic profile of the animal in production.
