Abstrakt: Indonesia is located along the Pacific Ring of Fire, also referred to as the Circum-Pacific Belt, and faces many natural disasters including earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, and floodings. The geographical location of Aceh Province is on the movement of tectonic plates, which makes the region at risk of earthquakes. Banda Aceh city was devastated by an 8.9 Richter Scale earthquake followed by giant tsunami waves back in 2004. On December 7th, 2016, Pidie Jaya, one of twenty-three districts in Aceh province, was hit by a 6.5 Richter scale earthquake. Even though the earthquake magnitude in Pidie Jaya district was less than that in Banda Aceh, a large number of structures were ruined. This study aims to rethink village planning in Pidie Jaya district in post disaster period, using bottom-up approach, in order to reduce risk when natural disaster occurs. The community's ability to welcome the era of society 5.0 is needed. There are three main abilities that every individual needs to have, namely: creativity, critical thinking, communication and collaboration. In doing this, the study conducts field observations including taking pictures, community meetings, and interviews. In addition, the study conducts literature review on related sources. The findings of this research emphasize the importance of community-based planning for disaster resilient village towards smart society. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
