Abstrakt: Apes, including gorillas, chimpanzees, orangutans, and bonobos, engage in spinning behaviors that researchers believe are more than just gestures or play. Cognitive scientist Marcus Perlman and evolutionary psychologist Adriano Lameira studied video clips of apes spinning and found that they often express enjoyment while spinning, suggesting that it is a fun activity for them. The researchers also suggest that spinning may provide apes with special sensory experiences and a sense of euphoria. Further research is needed to understand the deeper meanings and origins of this behavior, as well as its potential effects on mental health. The findings could help improve play spaces for apes in zoos and shed light on shared behaviors between humans and non-human primates. [Extracted from the article]
