A recent report from Virginia Commonwealth University discusses the findings of a study on heart failure in Black African American patients. The study aimed to determine the contribution of hemoglobin concentration to peak oxygen consumption (VO2) in these patients. The researchers found that anemia is prevalent among Black African American patients with recently decompensated heart failure and appears to be a significant contributor to reductions in peak VO2.
