A new report discusses research findings on obesity, fitness, and wellness, specifically focusing on the bioactive alkaloid oxaline and its spiroaminal congeners fungal alkaloids. The researchers from the Federal Institute of Education Science and Technology in Sao Luis, Brazil, used NMR spectroscopy and computational tools to study the abnormal NMR spectra of these alkaloids. They found that the broadening line phenomenon in the spectra is influenced by the quadrupolar field of nitrogen atoms. The research concludes that the prenyl group in these alkaloids is affected through space, even though it is not directly attached to any of the three quadrupolar nitrogen atoms.
