A new report from the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI in Moscow, Russia, describes a new physics-based compact model for simulating the effects of neutrons and protons on cosmic ray-induced soft error cross-sections in radiation medicine. The model takes into account the effects of nuclear reaction products and direct ionization by low-energy protons. The researchers obtained explicit energy dependencies of the soft error cross-sections for protons and neutrons over a wide range of nucleon energies. The model has applications in space physics, accelerator studies, high energy physics, and nuclear experiments. [Extracted from the article] |
