Abstrakt: Taiwan's Indigenous languages are facing threats due to the dominance of Mandarin Chinese. Efforts to revitalize these languages have been implemented by the government, but their effectiveness is questionable. The use of Mandarin Chinese in all aspects of Taiwanese life and the failure of "mother-tongue classes" to promote fluency are major obstacles. Grassroots language revitalization efforts, Indigenous journalism and television productions, and the inclusion of Indigenous communities in policy-making and cultural domains may be key to reclaiming indigeneity. Aotearoa New Zealand can learn from Taiwan's experience by prioritizing honest intentions in policies and recognizing the importance of Indigenous languages and cultures. [Extracted from the article]
