A study conducted at the State University of New York (SUNY) Buffalo compared the outcomes of patients who underwent revision total knee arthroplasty (rTKA) using either a traditional fully seated tibial cone construct or a novel proud tibial cone construct. The study found that both techniques resulted in improved mechanical alignment and good osseointegration without loss of fixation. The fully seated construct showed higher scores in the KOOS Function in Sport and Recreation subscale, but no significant differences were found in other subscales. The proud tibial cone construct was deemed an effective alternative that preserves bone, reduces operative time, prevents injuries, and saves costs. [Extracted from the article] |
