A study conducted at the National Cancer Centre Singapore investigated the longitudinal changes in Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) DNA levels in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) after radiotherapy. The researchers found that patients with detectable EBV DNA levels at 0-2 weeks post-radiotherapy had a lower disease-free survival rate compared to those with undetectable levels. Additionally, the study revealed that delayed EBV DNA testing at 8-12 weeks post-radiotherapy better identified higher-risk NPC patients. The findings suggest that early EBV DNA testing could inform adjuvant chemotherapy intensification in the treatment of NPC. [Extracted from the article] |
