Researchers from Peking University Third Hospital in Beijing, China, have conducted a study on stent fracture after transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) placement using the bare metal stent/stent-graft combination technique. The study found that stent fracture occurred in approximately 10% of patients with portal hypertension who underwent TIPS with this technique. The number of implanted stents and the stent bending angle at the inferior vena cava end were identified as predictors of stent fracture. The researchers suggest that procedural modifications could potentially reduce the incidence of stent fracture. [Extracted from the article] |
