Studies have discussed the origin and trajectory of the NYSC scheme in Nigeria. However, little or no emphasis has been placed on the NYSC signficant role on community development service. Hence, this study provided an empirical analysis of the current trend of NYSC community development service in Southwest Nigeria. It investigated the role of the scheme in the provision of community development service in the study area. Data were obtained from both primary and secondary sources using multi-stage sampling procedure. The result revealed that the NYSC scheme plays significant role in the provision of community development service (χ2 = 17.2; p < 0.05), specifically in the enhancement of educational standard, public enlightenment campaigns, disaster management and public safety in Southwest Nigeria. This study concluded that the NYSC scheme has a significant role in the provision of community development service in Southwest Nigeria. The study recommended a greater focus of the scheme on SDGs by collaborating with various agencies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
