Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles with disordered mesoporous structure and average particle size 36 nm were synthesized and characterized in this work. Zinc oxide nanoparticles were prepared through a simple and low cost surfactant assisted (SDS) soft template method. ZnO nanoparticles were characterized by small and wide angle x-ray diffraction pattern (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The optical property of the material wasobserved by carried out UV–Vis absorption studies and room temperature (RT) photoluminescence (PL) measurement. From the study of UV–Vis spectra of the prepared zinc oxide nanomaterial, a blue shift in the absorption band was observed. This was ascribed due to quantum confinement effect. A broad photoluminescence peak centred at 487 nmafter excitation at 428 nm of the prepared ZnO was observed due to some defect states in porous structure. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
