Researchers from the University of Detroit have conducted a study on the potential use of 2-Hydroxyisocaproic acid (HICA) as an intracanal medicament in dentistry. The study evaluated the cytotoxicity, genotoxicity, and effects on the differentiation of stem cells in the apical papilla. The results showed that HICA was not cytotoxic or genotoxic at certain concentrations and retained a significant portion of its osteogenic differentiation potential. The findings suggest that HICA could be a potential intracanal medicament for regenerative endodontic procedures. Further research is needed to validate these results. [Extracted from the article] |
