Abstrakt: A recent study conducted at the University of California has found a new method for immediate lymphatic reconstruction (ILR) in plastic and reconstructive surgery. Traditionally, ILR required the use of a fluorescent-capable microscope, but this study describes an alternative method using a handheld fluorescence imaging device. The researchers successfully used this device to identify transected lymphatic channels in all cases, allowing for the creation of a lymphaticovenous bypass. The study concludes that ILR using this handheld imaging device is safe and effective, broadening access to more patients who may not have access to a fluorescent-capable microscope.
