Abstrakt: Water splitting events are able to convert water (H2O) into hydrogen fuel. This event can occur in the process of electrolysis and photocatalysts with the help of electrical energy and photon energy. Hydrogen as renewable energy is a candidate for an environmentally friendly fuel because it does not produce emissions such as nitrogen oxides (NOx) and carbon dioxide (CO2). Due to strong electron-hole recombination, photocatalytic water splitting faces challenges in decomposing water into hydrogen and oxygen molecules. Changes in the crystallinity of the material through doping can be used to increase photocatalysts' ability to avoid recombination. Water splitting by electrolysis has the disadvantage of having low water to hydrogen conversion rate. We designed a water-splitting reactor with a photoelectrochemical system in this study. We found that the electrolysis process and the photocatalytic process worked simultaneously to increase the amount of gas bubble production (H2+½O2). The increase in gas bubbles by 204 bubbles from total observations of each electrolysis process and photocatalysis process separately. This means that this combined system has increased the number of gas bubbles by 22.61%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
