A recent study conducted by researchers from Al Neelain University in Sudan aimed to determine the prevalence of the coexistence of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) and hepatitis B surface antibody (anti-HBs) in patients with chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. The study included 70 HBV-infected patients and found that the frequencies of the coexistence of HBsAg/anti-HBs and HBeAg/anti-HBe were low compared to previous studies in different populations. The researchers suggest that factors such as vaccination, antiviral drugs, viral genome mutations, immune status, and human genetic factors may contribute to the coexistence of HBsAg and anti-HBs.
