Abstrakt: A recent study from Shenzhen, China, focused on amyloidosis, a condition characterized by the buildup of abnormal proteins in the body. The study highlighted the importance of accurately identifying the precursor proteins responsible for amyloidosis, as the two most common types, immunoglobulin light chain (AL) and amyloid transthyretin (ATTR) amyloidosis, have similar clinical presentations. The researchers described a case where a patient initially diagnosed with AL amyloidosis was later found to have hereditary ATTR amyloidosis through mass spectrometry and gene sequencing. This emphasizes the role of mass spectrometry in correctly identifying the amyloid precursor protein and avoiding false-positive results from immunohistochemistry. [Extracted from the article]
