Abstrakt: | A new study conducted by the Veterans Affairs North Texas Health Care System has found that docusate sodium, a medication commonly used for constipation, may not provide significant benefits for patients on opioids. The study reviewed data from April 2022 to September 2022 and found that patients who received docusate sodium still required rescue medications for constipation at a similar rate to those who did not receive the medication. The study also noted that morphine was the most constipating opioid and required more aggressive bowel regimens. These findings suggest that docusate sodium may not be essential for constipation treatment in this patient population. [Extracted from the article] |
