Abstrakt: Mediterranean diet is one of a healthiest diet on planet connected with longest lifespan and the biggest number of centenarians in the world. Our aim was to establish what the nutrition habits of Macedonian students are and also we wanted to see if there are differences between them, on one side and smoking and regular physical activity, on another. This research was conducted on 792 students from University "Ss. Cyril and Methodius", 18 - 20 years old. The KIDMED questionnaire was applied, consisted from 16 questions (each having a positive or negative points) that are related to the eating of particular food-types incorporated in the Mediterranean diet. Through summing the points, the so called index of Mediterranean diet (KIDMED index) can be obtained. If the KIDMED Index has the values of = 3, it indicates a low degree and is a mark of little use of the Mediterranean diet, optimal values are 4 - 7, and it is high with the values of = 8. From the obtained results it can be concluded that most of the students (56.8% of them) have optimal KIDMED index, 40% have high and only 3.2% have low KIDMED index. Then on the sample of students two analysis were made, first one considering smoking (210 students smoke and 582 students don't smoke), and then the second analysis that took into consideration regular physical activity (351 students practice it and 441 students don't), both in relation to KIDMED index. Pearson's χ2 test was applied in both groups separately. From the analyzed results it can be concluded that there are no statistically significant differences in KIDMED index between the students that smoke (56.2% of the students that smoke had optimal, 40.5% had high and 3.3% had low KIDMED index) and the ones that don't smoke (57% of the students that don't smoke had optimal, 39.9% had high and 3.1% had low KIDMED index), because they have similar results. On the other side, there are statistically significant differences in KIDMED index between the physically active students and the ones that were not, on a level of .00 (48.7% of them had optimal, 48.4% had high and 2.8% had low KIDMED index, while 63.3% from the students that weren't exercising had optimal, 33.3% had high and 3.4% had low KIDMED index). So, there were no statistical significant differences between nutritional habits and smoking, on one side, and on the other side, statistical significant differences existed between nutritional habits and regular physical activity in students on University "Ss. Cyril and Methodius". [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
