Abstrakt: Rice is a staple food for millions of people around the world. The accumulation of lead (Pb), which is a toxic heavy metal, in rice is a major public health concern. Therefore, a simple and accurate detection of lead content in rice is crucial to maintain the quality of public health in many countries. We report an application of laser induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) to analyze lead (Pb) content in rice samples. The aim for this LIBS application is to build LIBS systems for real-time in-situ Pb measurements. The calibration curves and estimated detection limits of measurements were built using a series of rice grain samples containing different concentrations of lead (Pb). The limits of detection of Pb were 20 mg/kg. The results indicate that LIBS has potentials to be used for for real-time in-situ measurements to detect lead elements in food samples.
