The research results of the stability of technical shot in the process of shot blasting the surfaces of metal products for preparation for applying protective coatings on them are presented. The time of effective operation of the shot is studied under the condition of its wear with a decrease in diameter to a certain critical limit, after which it is impossible to provide the specified roughness parameters with an allowable deviation. The dependence between the period of stability of technical shot on the number of cycles of its use, the mass of the shot after reaching the critical diameter of the shots and the rate of leakage of the abrasive-air mixture from the nozzle is obtained. On the basis of the results of experimental and theoretical studies of the processing of an abrasive-air torch on the surfaces of the cavities of metal cases of chemical apparatuses, individual numerical values of the parameters of the process of mechanical wear of technical shot under optimal modes of the cleaning process are established. The proposed method for determining the stability of shots provides the basis for creating an objective control system for the technological process of shot blasting of products in machine-building production. The technical indicators obtained in this work and the relationship between them can be used to update the regulatory requirements for technical shot. The proposed method for determining the rate of dimensional wear of shots over a certain number of shot use cycles makes it possible to objectively compare the cutting properties of various tool materials used for the production of technical shot.
