Instructors in our department who have used Perusall think that the grades given to students by its machine learning algorithms have been generally accurate; nevertheless, students are not getting substantive, qualitative feedback about their annotations, which could be frustrating to some. Instructors can follow up with students' annotations to further clarify class content, make connections between concepts, or prompt self-reflection from students - all within the context of the reading.
