Abstrakt: Effect of tempering temperature ranged from 200 to 500°C on mechanical properties and microstructure of novel low-alloy high strength steel was studied. The microstructure after solution treatment at 900°C and water quenching consisted of the martensite with lath size of 137 nm and nanoscale carbonitrides particles of ∼9 nm within laths. Tempering in temperature range of 200-400°C resulted in the same decomposition processes of martensite. First, precipitation of ε-carbide occurred within lath, which increases strength of the steel because of dispersion strengthening. Second, transformation part of ε-carbide into more stable cementite was revealed. Tempering at 500°C led to precipitation round particles of M23C6 carbide which fully replaced ε-carbide and cementite. The microstructural changes were correlated with mechanical properties. Yield strength of 1445 MPa obtained in quenched steel was increased to 1625 MPa after tempering at 200°C and retained constant up to tempering at 400°C. Noticeable decrease in yield strength down to 1415 MPa occurred after tempering at 500°C. Ultimate tensile strength slowly decreased from 2120 to 1930 MPa while tempering temperature increased from 200 to 400°C then fell down to 1680 MPa when steel was tempered at 500°C.
