Crystallography is an enthralling field of optical technology development. The effective acentric l-methionine barium nitrate (LMBN), which has nonlinear optical properties and is a semi-organic trait, was developed by the slow evaporation procedure. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction was utilized to ascertain the crystal belongs to the cubic system with Pa-3 acting as an acentric space group having lattice parameters a = b = c = 8.16Å, α = β = γ = 90°, and V = 543Å3. Fourier transform infrared (IR) and (Raman) spectrum were used to demonstrate the existence of functional groups in the LMBN crystal. Using Vicker’s microhardness test, the strength of the LMBN crystals was assessed and this material belongs to soft category. LMBN’s UV–vis spectra showed that they are exceedingly transparent in the visible region, with a cut-off wavelength of 294 nm, and an optical band gap of 4.21 eV. For various frequencies, the grown crystal’s dielectric property (dielectric loss and constant) was evaluated. Analysis of the surface morphology was done using SEM micrographs, the crystal is densely packed in nature, and the physical strength was excellent. The concept concerning the elements found in the crystals was discovered via EDAX research. The cultivated crystal has a higher laser damage threshold (16.18 GW/cm2) than other NLO crystals, employing an Nd:YAG laser with a wavelength of 1064 nm. Employing the Z-scan technique under a nano-pulsed Nd:YAG laser with a wavelength of 532 nm exhibits sequential two-photon absorption caused by excited state absorption of the third-order nonlinear optical property of the formed crystal was investigated. And also calculated lower optical limiting threshold is (3.27 × 1012 W/m2). Thus, the grown LMBN crystal exhibits interesting third-order NLO characteristics making it suitable for harmonic generation, optical limiting applications, and frequency conversion.
