Geotourism is an Edu - tourism program that increases awareness of people to be involved in environmental conservation efforts and mitigate potential natural disasters. Geotourism activities are tourism full of activities related to environmental education and learning. The main objectives of this study were to offer strategies for optimizing Edu – tourism program through tourism development in mount Slamet and Serayu mountainous areas Central Java Province. Interviews with experts and other stakeholder respondents were conducted to get primary data. The SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) analysis and the QSPM (quantitative strategic planning matrix) analysis were performed to identify the required management strategies. Results showed that the internal factor was higher than the external factor. According to the Strategic Position and Action Evaluation (SPACE) matrix, it can be conveyed that the current condition of tourism development was in quadrant "I," with the strategy that must be applied was "Growth-oriented strategy." Furthermore, the result of the QSPM analysis showed that the big three order strategies to optimize edu – tourism through geotourism development were: 1) differentiation and integration of geotourism products with other tourism products, 2) development of communal business in geotourism programs and 3) improvement of geotourism guidance and interpretation by destinations managers and travel agencies.
