The article discusses the shifting configurations of Chinese nationalized masculinities in Chinese cinema between 1950 and 2018 by tracing the iron patriots concerning socialist and postsocialist military action films and films with no military theme. The desire for real male masculinity in "Wolf Warrior" films, "Operation Mekong," and "Operation Red Sea" constructs the nationalist search for a 21st century Chinese manhood represents the national dignity and muscular portfolio. |
