Kenaf has a high potential as a filler or reinforcement in the polymer matrix because it is a fibrous plant. The properties of bio-composite materials depend on the properties of the matrix, reinforcement and process parameters used. This study uses kenaf fiber as a reinforcing material at different lengths (1 and 3 cm) and different compositions (10, 20, 30 wt.%), using a casting process. Low viscosity epoxy resin at 6 poise is used as a matrix. The results showed that the differences in fiber length and variations in kenaf composition were significantly affected the material properties of the bio-composites produced. Evenly dispersed fibers throughout the matrix produce better bio-composite material properties [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
