Abstrakt: The modification of the jet fragmentation function due to the parton-energy loss in dense quark–gluon matter is studied in channels involving the production of leading particles. The “softening” effect for the jet fragmentation function is shown to be determined by the angular distribution of gluons emitted in matter. This effect anticorrelates with the “suppression” of the total yield of jets owing to the energy loss of jet partons outside the jet cone. The possibility of measuring the jet fragmentation function by using leading electromagnetic clusters in heavy-ion collisions at the LHC energies is analyzed.© 2005 Pleiades Publishing, Inc.
