William Shakespeare's Othello translated by Fan S. Noli into Albanian (1916) represents the very first attempt to translate a Shakespearian play into this language. In 1977, after the Congress of Orthography (1972), the fourth edition of Noli's translation in Tirana appeared significantly modified following the new Standard Albanian orthographic rules. The first part of this paper investigates how the editor(s) of the 1977 edition modified the original text, investigating the translator's and editors' linguistic interventions, such as the structure, orthography, lexical particularities and morpho-syntax. The core of this study concerns the lexico-grammatical particularities evidenced in the Albanian versions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
