Abstrakt: Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) commonly requires critical care admission. The combination of hyperglycemia, ketonemia and acidosis represents the complete picture of DKA. Not all features of DKA may be evident, except for high anion-gap acidosis and ketosis. The goal here is not only to correct hyperglycemia but to correct acidosis, the hallmark of DKA, by correcting the glucagon-to-insulin ratio and reversing abnormal metabolic enzymatic pathways and biochemical abnormalities.
