We have studied the magneto-optical response of Cd1-xMnxTe when doped with two different elements (Ge and Fe) with a mean doping concentration of 5 × 1019 cm−3. Cd0.85Mn0.15Te doped with iron (Fe) has been explored as a solid-state gain medium for mid-IR laser sources, and Cd0.80Mn0.20Te with germanium (Ge) for use as a radiation detector. In this article, we study their magneto-optical response in the near-IR (690–1040 nm). We used the samples in the present study to explore the effects of these dopants on their magneto-optic properties. We have found that we can modify their magneto-optical response with the same Mn2+ doping level, without affecting their bandgap structure. This allows the engineering of the Verdet constant at a fixed wavelength by controlling the Fe or Ge doping level in the sample. Finally, we compared the Verdet constant dispersion relationship for the three samples, and found that Fe is the most promising dopant for magneto-optical applications due to its large Verdet constant compared to its undoped system.
