Abstrakt: The article cites a study of mental status and anamnestic factors related to the decision for inpatient or outpatient treatment. Present findings of the study suggested that there are patient-related symptomatic and diagnostic variables, identifiable during a mental status examination, which are related to intake decision-making. These results were consistent with most previous findings about possible psychopathological determinants involved in the decision whether an applicant should receive treatment in an inpatient or outpatient mental health care setting. Consistent symptomatology was found, as inpatients are more apt to be diagnosed as psychotic or to suffer from depression/suicidal ideation.
