Abstrakt: The article describes the case of a 67-year old man with severe emphysema who underwent bronchoscopic lung volume reduction using endobronchial valves monitored with simultaneous imaging of ventilation and gas exchange with hyperpolarized 129XE (HXE) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). It highlights clinical observations on the patient's lung function, breathing, ventilation and gas exchange. The effectiveness of inhaled HXe functional MRI in measuring lobar ventilation and gas exchange is noted.
