This paper solves a simple 3-DOF harmonic oscillator problem and determines the instability conditions. The calculated parameters and the corresponding roots of the characteristic equation are compared against numerical results obtained using a method of estimating the influence of design parameters of the automatic control system on the stability of an elastic aircraft in the stream.
