At present, in India, maize production is being threatened by Fall armyworm (FAW), Spodoptera frugiperda (J. E. Smith). Survey was conducted during the last week of July to September during 2019 and 2020 to estimate the quantitative incidence of FAW in Southern Rajasthan. In each field, 20 plants from 10 randomly selected spots (200 plants in each field) were selected and observed. A total of 74 and 80 smallholder maize farms were randomly selected and surveyed during 2019 and 2020, respectively. The FAW is widely distributed in the six districts of southern Rajasthan. The survey on the quantitative incidence of S. frugiperda revealed that the pest infestation ranged from 10.05 to 29.06 and 33.35 to 42.27 per cent with the mean of 21.87 and 39.22 per cent in southern Rajasthan during 2019 and 2020, respectively. The larval population ranged from 0.15 to 0.39 and 0.43 to 0.57 larvae per plant with the mean of 0.30 and 0.50 larvae per plant during 2019 and 2020, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
