Seit 2006 hat die Universitätsbibliothek Heidelberg fünf Bibliotheksneubauten sowie fünf große Sanierungsmaßnahmen im Gesamtvolumen von rund 133 Millionen Euro angestoßen. Höhepunkt der Bauaktivitäten 2019 war die Neueröffnung der Bibliothek des Center for Asian and Transcultural Studies (CATS). Mit dem Forschungsbau nach Art. 91b GG ist die größte deutsche Asienbibliothek nach der Ostasienabteilung der Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin entstanden. Der Bau ist Schlussstein langjähriger Reorganisationsprozesse, mit denen die Universitätsbibliothek Heidelberg die Voraussetzungen dafür geschaffen hat, sechs asienwissenschaftliche Institutsbibliotheken unter einem Dach zusammenzuführen. Since 2006, Heidelberg University Library has initiated the construction of five new library buildings as well as five major renovation projects, at a total cost of approximately 133 million euros. The highlight of the construction activities in 2019 was the opening of the Centre for Asian and Transcultural Studies' (CATS) new library. The research building, built in accordance with article 91b of the German Basic Law, is the largest Asian library in Germany, after the East Asia Department of the Berlin State Library. This construction is the keystone of many years of reorganisation, with which the University Library has created the conditions for bringing together the libraries of six Asian Studies institutes under one roof.
