Integrated toxicity is evaluated for diluted aqueous blends of heptane, nonane, decane, and diesel fuel via the measurement of their chemical oxygen consumption (COC) and biochemical oxygen demand for biodegradability of substances by microorganisms (BOD5). The ability to purify the above blends from hydrocarbons via the adsorption on a clay mineral—glauconite—was estimated. The chemical oxygen consumption is shown to be a qualitative characteristic of the degree of sorption purification of an aqueous medium from organic pollutants. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
