Abstrakt: Leprosy is a chronic infective disease presumptively caused by Mycobacterium leprae. Immunology broadly refers to the mechanism rendering a degree of resistance and immunity to individuals against any harmful foreign organism invading the body. The immune response consists of a cellular and a humoral component supplemented by a complement system. The capacity of the individual to mount an immune response that may limit bacillary multiplication determines the course after infection with Mycobacterium leprae. Macrophages are known to play an important role in the development of immune response. They normally are concerned with lysis of a foreign organism and regulating the intensity of lymphoid cell response to antigen.
