Abstrakt: The article reports on the reversal of the Act of Proscription in the 18th century which, as a result, allowed the wearing of Scottish tartan as it was rehabilitated from its earlier association with rebellion in Great Britain. Topics discussed include the prohibition of its use due to the link with the exiled House of Stuart in the 1740s, its characterization as a masculine fabric as it was linked with the uniforms of Scottish regiments, and its transformation into a fashionable women's wear.
