The purpose of the research is to analyze and summarize in the historical retrospect the directions of scientific research of scientists of the Ukrainian Research Institute of Poultry and to show the contribution of some employees to the development of poultry farming in the times of Soviet Ukraine. It has shown that in 1930 this institution was created as the All-Ukrainian Research Institute of Poultry, and in 1938 it was renamed the Ukrainian Research Station of Poultry and in 1959 - the Ukrainian Research Institute of Poultry. Scientists of this institution have created a Large Gray Geese Breed, breed groups of Ukrainian ducks, crosses of the egg-laying hens «Birky-I» and «Birky-II», developed methods of artificial insemination of poultry, introduced the technology of meat broiler production on deep litter and cage batteries, etc. Significant contribution to the development of poultry feeding was made by P. Yu. Bozhko, V. F. Karavashenko, V. I. Konovalov, Yu. N. Batyuzhevsky, I. Ya. Titsky, S. A. Vodolazhchenko, P. F. Surai, I. I. Ionov and others; breeding work - M. V. Dahnovsky, M. G. Kurdyukov, V.D. Lukianova, M.S. Shigaeva, P. M. Litko, I. A. Mymrin, A. P. Podstreshny, V. I. Bessulin, B.Ye. Podoba, V. P. Kovalenko, M. I. Sahatsky and others; technology of poultry keeping - P. M. Slyusar, A. V.
