GaN LED-BASED SHORT-REACH DATA TRANSMISSION OVER SI-POF FOR GIGABIT APPLICATION.

Abstrakt: In this article, we report the high-speed data transmission over a step-index polymer optical fiber (SIPOF) by using the GaN light-emitting diodes (LEDs) at 500 nm wavelength as light sources, which have the ring-shaped electrode with different mesa diameters. A maximal bit rate of 4.8 Gb/s is achieved for the GaN LED with a 75 um mesa diameter over a 1-m SI-POF by applying 4-pulse-amplitude modulation (4-PAM) format. The maximal modulation bandwidth is 400 MHz for the LEDs coupled to 1-m SI-POF at an operating current of 50 mA. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
