Abstrakt: The purpose of this study was to explore conflict approaches and face concerns of Finns and U. S. Americans. The Organizational Communication Conflict instrument (OCCI) was used to measure participants' conflict approaches and Baxter's Face Maintenance Instrument was used to measure participants' face concerns within a contrived conflict scenario. The data revealed that Finns and Americans do not differ in their use of nonconfrontation, Finns were found to use solution-orientation more than Americans, and Americans were found to use more controlling behaviors than Finns. Regarding face maintenance concerns, Finns worn found to be more concerned with other-face than self-face. No differences between the two cultures were found for other-face or self-face, however, sex differences between and within cultures were found for both face maintenance concerns.
