The present work investigates the physical and mechanical properties of fly ash geopolymer tiles with varying molarity of sodium hydroxide. The alkali activator used in this study is the mixture of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and sodium silicate (Na2SiO3). Various molarities of sodium hydroxide solution (6M, 8M, 10M, 12M and 14M) are used to prepare the mixtures. Fly ash geopolymer tiles with dimension of 160 mm × 40 mm × 10 mm were synthesised by using the fly-ash-to-alkali-activator ratio of 2.5 and activator ratio of 2.5. The samples were cured at 60°C for 6 hours. The fly ash geopolymer tiles are tested for their flexural strength after 28 days. The test results depicted that the flexural strength of fly ash geopolymer tiles increase generally when the molarity of NaOH increases. The geopolymer tiles produced with the molarity of 12M illustrates the highest flexural strength. However, further experimental lab work should be carried out to increase the flexural strength of fly ash geopolymer tiles. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
