This paper discusses the evaluation of the accident rate of an industrial facility equipped with a single-channel protective system subjected to aging and also considering arbitrary demand and repair times to cope with operational experience. A quite general solution is discussed by using supplementary variables. An analytical approach is discussed and its limitations are addressed.
