The article presents two cases of adductor longus rupture in professional football players. In the first case the patient was a 29-year old linebacker who during a tackle felt acute pain in the left groin. Following the injury, he was unable to continue play that day. Swelling and tenderness was noted in the groin and proximal thigh. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) examinations revealed a complete tear of the adductor longus from the insertion on the pubis. He underwent an acute repair of the adductor with suture anchors. The debrided end of the tendon was sent to pathology and revealed changes consistent with chronic degeneration. In the second case, a 26-year-old linebacker felt acute pain in the groin during tackle in training camp. The patient experienced pain on passive abduction and resisted adduction. MRI revealed a complete tear of the adductor longus from its proximal insertion. The patient underwent acute repair of adductor suture anchors. |
