Abstrakt: In this article the author discusses the incidence rates of oral cancer and natural history of oral precancerous lesions in a ten year follow-up study of Indian villagers. The author reveals that the main conclusions of the follow-ups were that oral cancer and oral precancerous lesions occurred almost solely amongst those who practiced tobacco habits in one form or the other and oral cancer was always preceeded by some kind of precancerous lesion. The author feels that the results of this project have compelled him to undertake an intervention study of oral pre-cancer in relation to tobacco habits.
