This article focuses on a study related to the contact sensitization to acyclovir. Acyclovir inhibits DNA polymerase of all human herpes viruses. A 19-year-old female student, who occasionally assisted her dental surgeon father, with no previous history of atopy or cutaneous conditions, developed erythema, edema and grouped opalescent vesicles over backs of metacarpophalangeal joints of both hands, preceded by a burning sensation two days earlier. The patient reported that she had never before used acyclovir, or any other antiviral drug, topically or systemically. |
