Abstrakt: This paper serves a dual purpose: to commemorate the work of the late Prof. Antonin Rosicky in Systems thinking about management and information systems, and to highlight a toolbox for sociotechnical systems development that we believe reflect similar perspectives and helps to take this agenda forward. It is suggested that a prevailing paradigm of management thinking has tended to underestimate the complexity and uncertainty inherent in human activity systems because boundaries are seen as closed, and systems therefore susceptible of control. It is argued that a paradigm shift is required in organizational and management thinking, to embrace the inherent uncertainties within social systems, rather than make attempts to reduce them. Only in this way, it is argued, can the changing complexities of global systems be addressed as we move forward. The need for such a perspective is nowhere more apparent than in the field of Information Systems Development. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
