Abstrakt:	The authors discuss the need for continued funding by the U.S. government in dental, oral, and craniofacial research. They reiterate the importance of reducing persistent oral disease in ensuring better overall health. They refer to a report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) which shows that despite the high standard of living in the U.S., 20 percent of Americans continue to be afflicted by dental caries, while 7 percent of adults have no natural teeth.
