Abstrakt: The Doctor of Physiotherapy (DPT) programme appears to be the next advancement in the inevitable shift in the paradigm of physiotherapy training in Nigeria. No study has reported the opinion of Nigerian physiotherapists about the programme. This study reports the opinion of Nigerian physiotherapists on the commencement of the DPT degree programme in Nigeria. Physiotherapists registered with the Medical Rehabilitation Therapists' Board (MRTB) of Nigeria were recruited consecutively using a non-probability sampling technique. A semi-structured self administered questionnaire was adapted for this study. Data obtained were analysed using descriptive statistics of frequencies and percentages. Results obtained showed that 145 (95.4%) of the respondents were aware of the DPT programme and 148 (98.7%) wished that the DPT programme be introduced into Nigerian universities. The majority of Nigerian physiotherapists surveyed in the study supported the commencement of the DPT programme in Nigeria. Physiotherapy training in Nigeria is most likely to be advanced by the introduction of the DPT programme as Nigerian physiotherapists have shown great interest in the programme. Efforts should therefore be intensified to introduce the DPT programme in Nigeria. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
